Why do the nations rage?
Why do the people waste their time with
futile plans?
The kings of the earth prepare for battle;
the
rulers plot together
against the LORD
and
against his anointed one.
"Let us break their chains," they
cry,
"and free ourselves from this slavery."
But the one who
rules in heaven laughs.
The LORD scoffs at
them.
Then in anger he rebukes them,
terrifying them with his fierce
fury.
For the LORD declares, "I have placed my chosen
king on the throne
in Jerusalem, my holy city."
The king proclaims the
LORD'S decree:
"The LORD said to me, 'You are my son.
Today I
have become your Father.
Only ask, and I will give you the nations as
your inheritance,
the ends of the earth as your
possession.
You will break them with an iron rod
and smash
them like clay pots.'"
Now then, you kings, act wisely!
Be warned, you
rulers of the earth!
Serve the LORD with reverent
fear,
and rejoice with trembling.
Submit to God's royal son, or he will
become angry,
and you will be destroyed in the midst of your pursuits—
for
his anger can flare up in an instant.
But what joy for all who find
protection in him!
Psalm 2
Why do people rage? Most of the time people rage because they can't have things their way. Well, man is so wishy-washy that when we do get things our way, we aren't pleased with that either. So, what's a person to do? Do it God's way!
All the way back to the days of Moses God starts showing us clearly that He has a chain of authority. When we submit to God, really submit to God, we will naturally want to honor that chain of authority — when we are walking in the Spirit. However, the moment we get back in the flesh our "want tos" take over!
When we submit to our flesh we have a tendency to either please people or please ourselves; either choice is frustrating. We cannot please people and pleasing ourselves? Well, I don't know of anyone who gets their own way all the time that is really, genuinely happy. The only time I am happy is when I find joy in doing things God's way. Beautiful isn't it? I mean, when we do it God's way not only do we have joy, but we also have His protection! Will we get a clue?
Father, I thank You so much for Your faithfulness to us even in our stupidity. I praise You because You have protected me even when I didn't deserve that protection because I was so busy trying to do things my way. Thank You for that precious grace of Yours that covers us so beautifully even when we're wrong!
