Dear brothers and sisters, you must be patient as you wait for the Lord's
return. Consider the farmers who eagerly look for the rains in the fall and in
the spring. They patiently wait for the precious harvest to ripen. You, too,
must be patient. And take courage, for the coming of the Lord is near.
Don't
grumble about each other, my brothers and sisters, or God will judge you. For
look! The great Judge is coming. He is standing at the door!
James
5:7-9
Most of us have a favorite poem, I know I do. It has to do with doing a simple job – standing by the door waiting for people to come that need Jesus.
Patience is definitely a virtue that is not often displayed during Christmas. That is sad. God was and is patient with us. He was patient in sending Jesus to earth. He is patient in Jesus' return. We too need to practice patience. Of course, the only way we can really be patient is to keep our eyes on Him and not let the small stuff stump us.
So, today, as you do more Christmas shopping, please be patient with those who can't.
Father, as the days dwindle down until the day we celebrate the birth of Jesus – You coming in human form – help us be kind and gentle to one another. Help us be patient. Let Your love shine through us as we shop and prepare for the Holidays. We know we can't do it on our own, we need Your grace to make it!
