The members of the council were amazed when they saw the boldness of Peter
and John, for they could see that they were ordinary men who had had no special
training. They also recognized them as men who had been with Jesus...
But
Peter and John replied, "Do you think God wants us to obey you rather than him?
We cannot stop telling about the wonderful things we have seen and heard."
Acts 4:13, 19
We know Peter and John were fishermen; not scholarly at all. Yet, having walked with Jesus for three years, they knew that they knew what they knew and that was enough.
On the day of Pentecost, the Holy Spirit transformed Peter, who once vacillated between being a devoted follower to a compulsive liar. It was Holy Spirit power that kept him focused on what Jesus wanted him to do and enabled him to turn from men and what they wanted him to do.
Most of you know that this summer has been a difficult time for us. With Roger's surgery coming unexpectedly it pretty much led me to what the writers of Experiencing God call a "crisis of belief." I will have to be totally honest with you and admit that there have been very serious moments when I've contemplated ending my life because I was so tired. However, God moved me to "stop, look, and listen."
I sought the Lord, asking Him to speak to me through my circumstances, people, and His Word and He proved faithful. I know that I know that I know God has called me to the ministry of encouragement. I know that I know that I know He has gifted me with the ability to listen and love. Now, whether I do that from my home, someone else's home, or a local restaurant, is up to God. When the time is right – He will open other doors.
David's prayer in Psalm 5:8 will help all of us. "Lead me in the right path, O Lord, or my enemies will conquer me. Tell me clearly what to do, and show me which way to turn." Maybe I was praying this in the Spirit and didn't even realize it because if I had gone on my instinct, well, we won't talk about that.
God has a plan for our life and mine. What He desires most for any of us is to KNOW Him better. That is His goal for us. Once we begin to do that, most of the time everything else will fall into place.
Heavenly Father, thank You for choosing the wisdom of Heaven to work in our lives rather than the wisdom of this world. We praise You for the gift of the Holy Spirit to work in our lives. We praise You for godly men who serve You. Bless the ministers of the people who read these words. Help us all to lovingly support our ministers in the work You have called them to.
