 A Precious Drop of Anointing
Oil
The Lord said to Moses, "Collect choice spices-12
1/2 pounds of pure myrrh, 6 1/4 pounds each of cinnamon and of sweet
cane, 12 1/2 pounds of cassia, and one gallon of olive oil.
Blend these ingredients into a holy anointing
oil. Exodus
30:22-25;
NKJV says: And you shall make from these a holy
anointing oil, an ointment compounded according to the art of the
perfumer. It shall be a holy anointing oil.
As I read this scripture I thought of the verse in Isaiah 53:4-5 Yet it was our
weaknesses he carried; it was our sorrows that weighed him down. And we
thought his troubles were a punishment from God for his own sins! But he
was wounded and crushed for our sins. He was beaten that we might have
peace. He was whipped, and we were healed!
Not too long after I gave my heart to the Lord, I saw a vision
of myself on a platform and I was leading worship. I knew in my heart
what the Lord had shown me and I could see that He was opening doors in
that direction. But, it wasn't until at least 10 years later that that vision
began to come to pass. And what I went through in order to get there
wasn't fun either. In fact it seemed that everything that happened was
designed to make me feel as though that vision wasn't from the Lord, only
vain imaginations at work. But I hung in there and often hid in the
background.
We see leaders today and think in our minds that
we want to do what they're doing. But they had to go through a process, just
as we will in order to get where God wants us to be. Reading the word
today, I see that there is a great price that was paid so that we could
have the anointing. That cross that Jesus took up has to be taken up by us
if we truly want the anointing.
I went in and looked up how the oils and spices were
achieved for this special anointing oil. Please bare with me thru this
study on the refining of oils and spices because through this we can
profoundly see the hand of the Lord at work in our own
lives.
First of all the olive has to be
harvested at exactly the right moment or the oil isn't right. Likewise God
knows when we're ripe for the harvest. The olive then has to be washed,
just as we need to be cleansed by the blood of Jesus to wash away the
filth of this world. Then the olives are gently poured from vessel to
vessel and then bruised so that the meat of the olive will separate from
the seed, as we are gathered together with those of the faith, being
tossed and bruised which separates us from our fleshly ways. They are then
put through a filtering process which removes the oil from the meat and
seed, as we were bound by sin are set free from bondage to sin and
death.
Following the first press, the
remaining paste is still rich in oil and is squeezed two or even three
more times. In these next presses they use other chemicals to retrieve the
remaining oils and these oils aren't as pure as from the 1st press. What
method the Lord uses to squeeze out these precious drops of anointing from
our lives by the power of His Spirit it is done as our hearts are changed
as we go through the Lord's press. Olives, like people, are not only of a
variety of colors, but some produce "very little" oil although this is
generally of a very "high quality". Others are more resistant and
productive, yet maybe "less palatable."
Now, the anointing oil is then mixed with
choice spices to complete this special anointing oil. It is
so special that it is not to be reproduced for personal use. It was only to be
used to anoint the different ones for service to the Lord. These spices themselves go
through a process that is very interesting and I could easily see the
parallel in it with the sufferings of Christ.
Calamus a sweet
scent used in the most precious perfumes, its knotted stalk is cut and
dried and reduced to powder as we are cut off from the things of this
world. We learn to die to self so that Christ can live through us. The
less of us, the bigger He becomes in our lives. Cassia is
one of the principal spices used for scenting, prepared from the peeled
bark from the tree.
With Cinnamon the pieces of bark are
boiled to yield a fragrant oil and as we all know when the heat is turned
on impurities come to the surface. When we face these things confessing
them to the Lord and then drawing near to Him, He is able to remove our
sin.
Myrrh -This was the gum
or viscid white liquid which flows from a tree (must be peirced) a stake
is placed in the trunk of the tree allowing the liquid to drain. It was a
custom of the Jews to give those who were condemned to death by
crucifixion "wine mingled with myrrh" to produce insensibility. This
drugged wine was probably partaken of by the two malefactors, but when the
Roman soldiers pressed it upon Jesus "he received it not" (Mark
15:23). (See GALL.) I can see that in my life every ounce of my own
strength is being drained out of me. I am learning to let go of how I
perceive what should take place and allow the Lord to bring His purposes
to pass. As Paul states in 2 Corinthians 13:4-5; For though he was
crucified through weakness, yet he liveth by the power of God. For we also
are weak in him, but we shall live with him by the power of God toward
you.
This I do know, that when the Lord calls us and
appoints us in positions of leadership, He will bring it to pass. It
doesn't matter what anyone else thinks about us. He will part the waters
for us in order to achieve the results He wants out of our lives.
Father, I thank you for the Anointing that you have
placed on my life, I thank you that in every situation, You have been with
me, loving me and giving me a hope for my future. I pray that these words
with inspire and give hope to those who will read this and that their
hearts will be lifted in praise to You. For you are our healer, comforter
and counselor. And You are able to make straight the path that has been
crooked in our lives.
